lucia en vivo la piñona

Lucía en vivo

In this show, Lucía Álvarez “La Piñona” breaks free from the usual, rigid structure of dance performances. She immerses herself in an open-ended process, moving freely between flamenco and its fringes. She lets her body organically and naturally channel and express her worries, thoughts, and emotions from the inner repertoire that lives within her.

In other words, in “Lucía, en Vivo,” the dancer presents a passionate and vitalistic piece that breathes and feeds off the energy of the moment. She allows herself to change according to what her musicians, the audience, or even her mood dictate. From Manzanita to Camarón, from Pastora Pavón to María Jiménez, or from Juan Villar to Joaquín Rodrigo, the dancer tunes into the vibrant and diverse musical thread that makes up her artistic and aesthetic universe to share her perspective on lo jondo (the deep-seated essence of flamenco).

This perspective, as she has shown in her previous shows, delves into the modernity she finds in the old and defends the ancestral weight of the new. With references that range from the most primitive flamenco to jondo psychedelia, touching on quinqui (a subgenre of Spanish films about juvenile delinquents), Andalusian rock, prog rock, classical music, or urban music, here it takes form through seguiriyas, peteneras, guajiras, tangos, bulerías, or rumbas.

More than a show, “Lucía, en Vivo” is an energetic and original concert where dance merges with music and voice. The entire cast forms a fresh and complicit band that La Piñona keeps on alert.

It’s a show to see and to listen to the dance of a unique artist.

“Lucía en VIVO is presented as an invented format that distills emotion and tenderness in every turn of her long arms, in those subtle and already so recognizable gestures of a dancer who expands the limits of her freedom with every step.”

“The show, at times, approaches a performative style, especially when Lucía Álvarez interacts with the audience or when she herself also becomes a singer.”

“La Piñona returns to the stage with a proposal in which she aims to explore various facets beyond dance, revealing a desire to be punk or, rather, to be a ‘rockstar’.”

“A dancer with the soul of a garage singer, escorted by classic singing that sounds like the most rock-and-roll Triana and the most electric Alameda, in Lucía en Vivo she offers us a journey through the sound space that makes up the playlist of her life.”
